Artist Bio
I am 34 years old and have been doing my ceramic art for about a year now. I started taking classes at Lake Superior College with Dorian Beaulieu in January of 2006 and fell in love with the art of Ceramics. I have since then taken 3 more ceramics classes and am working on pursuing that for one of my career goals. I have taken a personal interest in making covered jars and have started a whole series of covered jars. I also am stimulated by the sculpural methods to create something beautiful. I am more into realistic art, meaning that a person knows what it is when they see it versus abstract, where the onlooker has to interpret the piece of art. I like to throw wheel pieces and then add my own sculptural embellishments to them. I use mostly stoneware and porcelain clay but a few of my pieces, however are made with Raku and Earthenware clay. Some of my work is done with stoneware glazes fired at a 2650 degree temperature and I also use a lot of earthenware underglazes that are fired at a lower temperature, about 1650 f degrees. I use both these methods depending on the decorative technique that I am trying to achieve. I am inspired by things around me in nature, such as small animals and bugs and I am also greatly inspired by lighthouses and nautical things.
